The 4 Fashion Trends To Try This Winter

Despite not having many places to go there is still a circulation of trends to keep your eye out for during lockdown; luckily, some are even wardrobe staples that can be worn throughout Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Perhaps the best way to make it through these repetitive days is to treat yourself to some retail therapy with the following pieces below.

Chunky Boots –

The unpredictable English weather can make these shoes an all-round favourite, whether wearing them for a walk out or styling them with your most loved jeans, they are sure to add a fashionable but practical flair to your wardrobe. With being so popular at the moment it means there are a lot of different options when it comes to style and colour, for example Zara’s Flat Knee-High Boots with Track Soles (£79.99) take on the form of a Wellington but with a high fashion twist, described as being an Ecru White they definitely have a unique quality to them. Meanwhile another style of the Chunky Boot can be found on ASOS, the Koi Footwear Sentry (£72) shoes are made from vegan leather with a bold platform which is sure to quite literally, elevate your look.

Sweater Vests –

The Sweater Vest has quickly been added to a lot of wardrobes due to its versatility when it comes to  tailoring an outfit, furthermore its long relationship within fashion only highlights the importance of its re-emergence. Initially being a menswear staple throughout the 1900’s, it gradually began being incorporated into women’s fashion until it was popularised in the 1990’s. Looking back we can see the sweater vest being featured, whether being worn by Cher Horowitz in Clueless or Rachel Green in Friends. With current elements of fashion being inspired by the 90’s and the early 2000’s it makes sense that the sweater vest would begin to be a trend once more. Ribbed Sweater Vests are particularly popular at Monki ranging at around £25, along with cropped and longer styles. Meanwhile the smaller brand Neon Rose has had the public in favour of their Marble Knitted Sweater Vest (£35).

Faux Shearling Coats –

With temperatures remaining at an average of 10°C across the UK and some areas hitting a low average of 2°C, you want to ensure that when you do leave your house you’re wrapped up and ready. It makes it the perfect time for Faux Shearling Coats to be back in fashion, helping us remain warm wherever we go. With fashionable cropped and knee length styles easy to find online, it makes it fitting that this style of coat has been sought after. Currently on sale at Urban Outfitters, you can find a Faux Shearling Mary Crop Coat (£39 – sale) which can ease you into Spring and can be re-worn in Autumn. Another place to find this type of coat is second-hand shops or websites such as Depop – an example of this is a Vintage Brown Faux Suede/Shearling Coat (£66) found under an account titled ‘berrymalinowska’.

Corsets –

The corset has been in and out of style since it was first designed in 1500, remaining popular for a long time its purpose was to slim the waist of women to create a ‘feminine’ silhouette. Over time the context of the corset has changed from being a restrictive garment to an empowerment of the body which is accessible to all sizes. Much like the Sweater Vest, this clothing piece can be layered or worn on its own making it interchangeable throughout the seasons. Zara offers a couple of different styles of corset, one being a Knit Corset (£25.99) which has frontal hook and eye fastenings, whilst ASOS’ co-ord set includes the Collusion Corset in Heritage Check (£18) which can be matched with the Dad Blazer and Unisex Straight Leg Joggers.
