Six Reasons Why Attending The Theatre Beats Netflix Or The Cinema

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that I love watching a Netflix show or two. But when considering entertainment solutions, attending the theatre is something we should all do from time to time.

Sure, it’s more expensive than your monthly Netflix. Still, the experience makes it worthwhile. Here are six reasons you should plan a trip over the coming months.

#1. It’s An Empowering Experience

Going to the theatre isn’t just about the entertainment itself. From the moment you book tickets to West End musicals or other big shows, the excitement starts to build. When the day comes, getting dressed up for a night at an iconic venue is a lot of fun. Moreover, looking your best is sure to make you feel your best, which makes it a very empowering experience.

Whether you go alone, on a date, or with friends doesn't matter. The whole theatre experience is a memorable event. Likewise, it is something that loved ones will want to hear about. For that reason alone, it has a far greater appeal than Netflix.

#2. Actresses Will Inspire You

The whole experience makes you feel alive, but the shows themselves will leave you feeling inspired. After all, women were originally not cast in theatre pieces. So, whether you see a talented performer in a lead role or supporting part, you will sense that growth for womankind. Not to mention the inspiration that comes from seeing them live and breathe their passion.

Even if you do not harbour hopes of acting, it can give you the oomph needed to chase goals in your life. Whether that’s at work or any other form of self-development doesn’t matter. A trip to the theatre will give you a sense of renewed energy.

#3. You’ll Be More Engrossed In The Plot

I love TV, and there is no doubt that it has the ability to change your thoughts. That scene Everything I Know About Love is a prime example of this. Having said that, it is easy to zone out when watching a screen, especially in the evening. As well as tiredness, you’ll be thinking about the following day while the distraction of your smartphone is another potential issue.

Frankly, this is not an issue at the theatre. You may potentially take a quick photo before the show starts. After that, though, the actors and actresses will command your full attention. As such, you are likely to gain far more from the experience.

#4. The Atmosphere Is Distinct And Memorable

As already mentioned, attending the theatre is an experience that starts from the moment you book the tickets. Whether it’s an evening or matinee performance, there is something magical about the surroundings. Victorian Theatres and Edwardian Theatres, for example, have distinct elements. So, you will feel connected to the history of the country and the arts.

From the foyers to the stalls or grand circle, you can’t escape the magical atmosphere. Frankly, it is far more spectacular than the bland, almost uniform, modern cinemas. Likewise, your home cinema setup can’t compete.

#5. There’s No Binge

It may sound like I’m contradicting my love of Netflix here, but sometimes there is too much of a good thing. Binge-watching a series can be a great way to kill boredom, but it may also stand in your way of productivity. Whether that’s completing household jobs or working on a side hustle. Letting too much leisure time stand in the way is never wise, but oh so easy to do.

Conversely, a trip to the theatre is a special event that takes up one night of your life. Even if you are a regular theatre attendee, the time dedicated to this hobby is far less than watching endless TV. So, you can achieve far more with the rest of your time.

#6. You Can Enjoy It With Others

Sure, you can watch a film with friends. However, watching a series with someone can be difficult as you need your schedules to sync up. Even watching with a spouse can be tough, especially if one of you isn’t ready for the next episode just yet. The theatre is something you’ll plan in advance. Besides, it feels like a bigger social occasion.

If you’ve fallen into the trap of repetitive home date nights, this can be the perfect solution. Or if you’re looking for something to do with a friend without the threat of one of you cancelling, the theatre is for you. Even if the show is average, a positive experience is assured.
