Empowering Self-Care: The Pink Moon Journey and Ancient Wisdom with Founder, Lin Chen
Embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment with Pink Moon founder, Lin Chen. Pink Moon is a visionary self-care brand rooted in Lin’s transformative personal odyssey. Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Crystals, and Astrology, Pink Moon aims to make ancient wisdom accessible through tangible products, exemplified by its signature gua sha and facial oil combo. Recognised in some well-known publications, the brand’s widespread impact is a testament to its positive influence.
In this interview, explore the origins, sustainability initiatives, spiritual practices, and philanthropic endeavours that define Pink Moon's ethos. As we glimpse into 2024, anticipate the brand's expansion and the launch of new products, promising an enriching journey towards holistic well-being and empowerment.
Where and when did the idea of Pink Moon come from? I'm also interested to understand the name and its origins.
Every April, there is a “pink moon” full moon, which signifies renewal, reflection, and self-growth. I firmly believe that as you embark on the joyful and challenging path of self-love, and blossoming into your fullest potential, you are living in a space of empowerment and abundance. Hence, the name "Pink Moon".
Pink Moon was born from a long journey of self-discovery and rediscovery. Following a series of toxic relationships that took a toll on my overall well-being and after experiencing insomnia, depression, and other health issues I learned to embrace my heritage of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and incorporated Reiki, Aromatherapy, Crystals, and Astrology into my daily rituals. These practices and tools combined helped guide me back to a place of self-love and acceptance, empowerment, and joy.
Our mission is to spread the same joy and comfort I found in this life-changing ancient wisdom while preserving the legacy of my ancestors. Our products make TCM more accessible by translating them into tangible products so that anyone can incorporate mindful self-care rituals—based on time-honoured practices—into their daily life.
Your products have been featured in pretty much every major publication! Byrdie, Harpers Bazaar, People, Vanity Fair, Refinery29 and even Reese's Book Club! How does that domination and clear passion for your products feel?!
All the glowing reviews and press features we've received confirm that I'm on the right path and am making a positive impact on others!
A lot of those publications were featuring your gua sha and facial oil combo, can you tell me a bit about the health and skin benefits of this power product couple?
I believe that skincare is a form of self-nourishment. A daily gua sha practice can truly impact your mental and emotional well-being as well as your skin and overall health. One of the reasons I created the Pink Moon Rose Quartz Gua Sha tool was to not only honour my heritage and help me feel closer to my culture, but to give others access to a tool that can enhance their holistic health, beauty and wellness rituals.
Gua sha promotes long-term skin, mental, emotional, and physical health. It is excellent for lymphatic drainage, addressing stagnant energy, promoting blood flow, soothing headaches, reducing inflammation, shortening acute illnesses like colds and flu, and releasing tension - from head to toe. The Pink Moon Over the Moon Gua Sha Facial Oil was specifically formulated to be silky to glide easily with a gua sha tool. It doubles as a daily facial moisturizer, too, because it plumps, tones, softens, and protects the skin barrier.
Where do you take your inspiration from?
I'm inspired by my self-love journey and culturally rooted traditions.
Can you tell me a little more about EcoCart and why sustainability is important to you and your business?
The climate crisis is massive, complicated, and overwhelming. So, it’s often hard to know what we can do about our carbon footprint. We’ve partnered with EcoCart to empower the Pink Moon community to make their orders 100% carbon-neutral.
For every one of our amazing items that ships, you can offset the specific carbon footprint with a positive environmental impact! This means the full carbon emissions from producing, manufacturing, and shipping your favourite Pink Moon products to your door would be completely neutralized.
As well as a female founder, I know you're also a Reiki healer, which excites me as I love energy and Chinese astrology! Can you tell me more about this and your practice for those who don't know about these pursuits?
A Reiki Attunement is an initiation into a sacred metaphysical order that has been present for thousands of years. I decided to get a reiki attunement to clear energetic blockages and extend my commitment to working on raising my own vibration. Channelling reiki energy allows energy (or qi, ki) to flow through your body promoting physical, mental, and emotional healing.
I have to add this one in, what's your fave Pink Moon product?
My #1 Pink Moon product rotates often! Right now, it's our Over the Moon Facial Oil, which is saving my skin this winter. I wake up with supple, baby-soft, and glowing skin.
I love that discounts aren't a thing for Pink Moon. It's a bold statement, and I'd love to hear why you've chosen to do this.
One thing I’m also really proud of, is that we’ve donated to over three dozen charities since the launch. Giving back is an important core value of mine that was instilled in me since I was a child. We donate 1% of our revenue from each purchase. Currently, we partner with 4 charity partners to give back to mental health organisations for Black and AAPI women, eco advocacy, and animals.
What does Pink Moon have planned for 2024? Anything we should know about?
We hope to expand our mission to be more accessible and widely available, so I'm in talks with hotels to place our products in their amenities. We also have a few products in the pipeline, namely body care and wellness and lifestyle products!
