Music spotlight: Georgia Caine

If you’re reading this as a Brit, you may not have already heard of Georgia Caine, and if you’re an Aussie, then you may already have heard of Georgia Caine. Either way, we at The C Word felt like EVERYBODY should know about Georgia Caine.

Have we said Georgia Caine too many times now? The answer, not nearly enough.

This young 22 year old singer and model hails from Melbourne, Australia. However it’s only recently in the last few years that she has made more of a push towards music, and with lockdown still on everyone’s minds around the world, we think you should give her songs a little listen. Head to her YouTube channel and you can check out a cover of ‘Slow Burn’ by country singer Kasey Musgraves, or her most recent cover of Selena Gomez’s ‘Lose You To Love Me’, among many others.

I had a chance to catch up with Georgia personally, to find out a little more about this up and coming aussie singer.

What first got you interested in music? I’ve pretty much been singing since I could talk. I really don’t remember a time where I wasn’t performing. As a kid I would make my whole family buy tickets to my shows that I would hold with my little sister, and it really just never stopped. When I started school, I did singing lessons and joined choirs and did lots of musical theatre. Then high school started which ended up being a huge knock to my confidence - I actually nearly stopped singing all together because I thought I wasn’t any good. It wasn’t until the year after school ended that I realised I loved it so much, that I was going to do whatever it took to be good enough so people would let me perform for them.

What women inspire you? This is a long list! In terms of music, my greatest inspiration at the moment is probably Lennon Stella - she is a Nashville based singer and songwriter and she is just brilliant. The way she writes music is incredible - her phrasing is just out of this world! Rosie Huntington-Whitely is also a great inspiration - her company Rose Inc is just so innovative in the way it delivers its content - I would love to sit down with her graphic design team! I think I am truly just inspired by women who are able to stand their ground and use their vision to disrupt the norms in their space.

If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be? I would definitely love to collaborate with Lennon Stella - I just love her sound and her aesthetic, or Kacey Musgraves (she’s another artist with a great vision who’s willing to push the boundaries of her space - country music)

Go-to karaoke tune? Anything ABBA really - probably my favourite is Mamma Mia or Thank You For The Music!

How does it feel being a young woman in the music industry? I am actually super inspired by it - I feel like the industry is really changing.

What’s your favourite song? Golf on TV by JP Saxe and Lennon Stella

You were recently seen on The Voice Australia (where you had a duet with Delta Goodrem - video above), how was that experience? That was the coolest and craziest experience of my life. I was so nervous when I actually did my audition though - it wasn’t until Delta came up and started singing with me that I was actually able to perform properly and just enjoy it! I feel very lucky that Delta was such a kind and beautiful soul. Overall it was a great learning experience - I’ve been really working hard to improve even more since then!

As an Australian artist, I’ve got to ask, which flavour of Tim Tams are the best? (I personally love double chocolate) Look whilst this might be a bit boring, Original is my go-to. I just don’t think you can get any better.

What random fact about you should we know? I’m a complete choc-a-holic. To the extreme (I can finish off a family size block of chocolate in one sitting - this is no joke).

What’s are your plans for the future? My next step is to get writing - I want to have an EP together some time next year ideally. I also plan on performing at any venue that will take me! Before the Voice Australia, I was too nervous of failure to put myself out there, but now I’m just excited to experiment with my sound and my brand - even if I fail - because it’s 100% how you learn!
