Let me introduce you to Fozia Nasir, a TV Producer who will be releasing the self-published charity e-cookbook Mamma Makes at the start of September. Why do you need to know about this go-to recipe book? Mamma Makes celebrates recipes and stories from British chefs and food influencers from multicultural Britain.
The Mamma Makes e-cookbook is compromised of over 45 recipes from some of Britain’s best chefs, home cooks and food influencers from the black and minority ethnic community, each providing a mouthwatering recipe that is wrapped up in a brief story of how they and their family migrated to Britain. Whether it’s the grandmother who migrated from Iran due to religious persecution, or the family of nurses who were part of the Windrush generation, these recipes along with their all-important back stories are descended from mothers and grandmothers, mirroring how to live and feel in Britain today. What’s more, all proceeds from the e-cookbook will go to One Million Meals.
Fozia’s aim to donate all proceeds to the charity One Million Meals is set against an ambitious (but achievable) target to feed one million nutritious meals and drinks to NHS doctors, nurses, paramedics and key workers at the frontline fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipes in the e-cookbook range from sumptuously sweet baklava, to succulent Indian meatball curry, all in the name of celebrating British diversity and long-withstanding heritage passed down to second and third generations through the joys of food. Most importantly, at a time where representation is so important, these recipes are bound up in authenticity, delving deeper into the roots from which they were born and it is our pleasure to be able to showcase them (as well as try and cook them ourselves!)
