The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology: Insights from Dominique Antiglio

What is Sophrology?

For those unfamiliar with Sophrology, Dominique Antiglio explains it as a powerful well-being practice combining relaxation, breathing techniques, gentle movement, meditation, and visualization. “Sophrology helps balance the body and mind through the nervous system, enabling people to overcome physical, mental, and emotional barriers to unlock their full potential,” she shares.

Unlike practices that require extensive time or training, Sophrology offers short, easy-to-do exercises that fit seamlessly into modern life. “It provides an empowering toolkit for managing stress, boosting resilience, enhancing confidence, and achieving balance,” says Dominique. Whether used as a quick, on-the-go resource or as part of a long-term transformation, Sophrology is adaptable to individual needs.

The birth of BeSophro

Dominique founded BeSophro in 2011 after moving from Switzerland to London, inspired by her personal journey. “Sophrology helped me navigate stress-related health challenges as a teenager, and I wanted to share its benefits with others,” she explains.

While widely recognized in Europe and integrated into healthcare, workplaces, and schools, Sophrology was relatively unknown in the UK. Dominique established her practice to bridge this gap, tailoring it for diverse clients, including CEOs, expectant mothers, students, and athletes. Over time, BeSophro evolved into a global digital platform, offering courses and subscriptions addressing common challenges like sleep, stress, and performance.

Expanding into online courses

The shift to online offerings was driven by demand. “People from around the world reached out, wanting to learn how Sophrology could support their lives,” Dominique recalls. Online courses made Sophrology more accessible, helping thousands incorporate its benefits into their daily routines.

Dominique emphasises preparation for wellness practitioners considering a digital presence: “Gain real-world experience first. Ensure your content provides genuine value, and seek advice from those who’ve succeeded in the space. A user-friendly, engaging offering is crucial in the competitive online world.”

Writing The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology

The success of her practice and the growing interest in Sophrology inspired Dominique to write The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology. “When a publisher approached me, I realized this was an opportunity to introduce Sophrology to a wider audience,” she says. The book became a bestseller and marked a milestone as the first widely published English-language book on Sophrology.

Challenges and triumphs

Introducing a relatively unknown practice to new audiences has been both a challenge and an opportunity. “Much of my time is spent educating people about what Sophrology is and how it can help them,” Dominique shares.

Despite the challenges, seeing her work resonate is deeply rewarding. “Hearing from someone who has read an article or my book and felt inspired to try Sophrology is incredibly fulfilling. Knowing I’ve positively impacted someone’s wellbeing makes all the hard work worthwhile,” she notes.

Key advice for wellness practitioners

Dominique offers sage advice for those looking to grow their audience: “Take your time. Build a solid foundation of one-to-one experiences to refine your skills and identify your unique strengths. Once you have that clarity, you can scale confidently to reach a larger audience.”

Looking ahead: BeSophro in 2025

Exciting developments are on the horizon for BeSophro. Dominique reveals plans to launch a subscription-based wellness platform in 2025. “The platform will make Sophrology even more accessible, offering courses, daily practices, and online guidance,” she explains.

Designed to support users with tools for managing anxiety, improving sleep, and navigating life transitions, the platform will also foster community and long-term engagement with Sophrology. “We want to ensure people can truly experience the life-changing benefits of this practice,” says Dominique.

Dominique’s must-haves

What keeps Dominique grounded outside of Sophrology? “Walking in nature, Earl Grey tea, and meaningful connections with people,” she says with a smile.
