The Tory Party: An Opinion Piece

This Status Quo cannot continue.

It has become a race to the bottom and no longer a race to the top. The Tories have taken the UK back to pre – 1945: an era of work insecurity, in which short-term low-waged contracts are now the norm.

Since the late Margaret Thatcher, the Tory Party has been on a rapid mission to shrink the State. This is what austerity really is! Privatisation has been the name of the game, and sadly our beloved National Health Service is fast going the same way. The right-wing Tories stand for a small State and low-income tax party, who are ideologically opposed to using taxpayers money as investment and subsidy of any of our vital services.

Britain is heading towards levels of social inequality, last seen in the Victorian Era. Cuts to welfare and a National Insurance increase will surely cripple a population that is still reeling from this pandemic crisis. 40 odd years of Neoliberalism, the so-called amazing free-market agenda; has merely resulted in capitalism for the poor and socialism or giant handouts, bailouts, and subsidies for the rich.

This neoliberal status quo, of reduced taxation for the rich and means-tested handouts for the rest of us; has ultimately resulted in more food banks than Britain has fast-food restaurants.

At a time when the Tory Party is championing business and innovation, the voting public may well ask how innovation will help them survive the here and now.
