Photographer spotlight: Lydia Robinson
Lydia is a queer, tenacious and creative film photographer. She began her photography journey when she found a point and shoot at her mums house in the first lockdown this year. Sadly when she went to get the roll developed it came out blank. This weirdly spurred her on and in a way excited her to question if she had any skill in this field, so she then decided to invest in an SLR from Ebay and has been taking photos ever since.
She has grown to truly love and respect all types of photography but film has a way of making time stand still as it isn't instant, it's a slower process and insists that you are patient which is why you have to be so precise with your shots. Sadly film and development can be quite costly, but another reason as to why film is so great is that it encourages you to really hone in on your style and choices when taking photos.
Capturing portraits are her favourite kind of photos to take, and in particular the LGBTQ+ community as she wants to raise a platform for queer photographers, so when allowed to she has attended a few drag shows, and also asked her girlfriend and friends (mostly who are queer) to take their photos.
She is very open and keen to collaborate with people who have a concept or idea for some photos that they want taking on film, please get in touch via her Instagram! @lydsthatpicstook
