TV shows:

The Chair

  1. This show is about a woman of colour (played by Sandra Oh) becoming chair of an English department at a university in America. The department is falling apart, attendance is low and the professors are either on the edge of retirement or alcoholics. In the show, Ji-Yoon (Sandra Oh) is the first woman of colour to become chair of the department and suddenly faces this responsibility as well as juggling motherhood and a complicated love situation.

The Chair embodies perfectly the struggles women face with balancing work life and motherhood. It also portrays a realistic adult relationship, full of struggles and sacrifices. This TV show does all this whilst keeping it light and witty; if you’re looking for a new TV show to binge watch here you go!

Podcasts:

On Being with Krista Tippett

  1. In this podcast, Krista Tippett has conversations with people from all walks of life about life’s “big questions”. It is both an interview as well as a general discussion about spirituality, society, the arts and much more. We especially love the episode with Ocean Vuong where he speaks about his childhood, his poetry and his new novel “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous”. If you’re looking for a podcast with some in-depth conversations, this one’s for you.
