What To Do When You Get Tired Of Your Desk Job

Tired of working an 8 hour shift in a stifling office? Feel a bit like you’re going nowhere when all you see is a screen all day? Well we’ve got some good news for you! There are a lot of career options for women who hate being stuck in one place their whole career, and any one of them could be right for you. But what should you do once you know the desk isn’t right for you?

Get more active outside of work

The working hours you serve aren’t all there is to life! If you want to shake off the desk job woes, you’re going to need to get active when you’re not on the clock. Not only will this help you to surf the last few weeks or months of your current job, but it’ll help you prepare your body for a more demanding role when you start in your new position.

Be sure to maintain your flexibility here. Sitting at a desk all day can make your back and legs ache, and they’ll eventually start getting stiff and hard to move. Take up stretching for at least 20 minutes per day, and think about trying a Yoga class or two. You can then move onto cardio and strength focused activities.

Consider your qualifications

Do you have the right qualifications needed to do something outside of a sedentary working environment? Now this is quite a big question to ask, and you’ve got a lot of soft skills to pride yourself on, but do you have any concrete certifications that could help you find a job out and about? Because if not, it’s time to consider reeducating yourself.

For example, if you’re someone who loves being outdoors and in nature, you can try out in-person courses for those wanting to start a career in aboriculture. On the other hand, if you’re a fitness nut and would love to offer personal training services, you can sign up for classes that’ll help you become licenced. Take a look at your resume and see if it matches up to the demands of more manual labour.

See what’s going on in your area

Finally, if you want to move on as soon as possible, you’ll need to fill a gap that already exists in your area. If this means you’ll have to work a side job as a courier for a bit, so be it! It’ll help you to keep income coming in but also keep you on the move, which can be a refreshing change as you find the perfectly active position for you.

Maybe a local business needs an event coordinator? Maybe a few community events need a chaperone? Maybe a local park needs an organiser? Any of these jobs could be right for you if you’re looking out for them!

How do you go about finding a new career that’s active and makes good use of your natural strength? Keep the points above in mind!
