Why having a Bucket List can improve your life

Since creating my Bucket List, I have achieved and manifested more than I ever thought possible, visited places that have blown me away and experienced so many incredible things that others could only dream of. I have overcome fears as well as become very detailed and focused on what I want to have and experience in my life. In some way’s I guess I’ve used it as sort of a ‘Life Road Map’ detailing my dreams and plans for my future, ticking them off one at a time expanding the list as I go. I’ve also been extremely grateful to receive help from others along the way in achieving some of the things on the list.

What is a Bucket List?

A number of experiences, goals, dreams and achievements that one hopes to have or accomplish during their life-time. A Bucket List allows you to keep track of your aspirations and assists in planning the steps to achieve them, in order to enhance the experiences in your life.

Before I actually wrote my bucket list, my interpretation was just a list of standard experiences that one should do in their lifetime which seemed pretty unattainable. I can tell you right now that I didn’t always have a Bucket List and to be honest, I didn’t think it was necessary. However, in 2018 I had some major realisations in my life and in my self-development. I randomly listened to a podcast on How to Achieve Everything on Your Bucket List which inspired me and opened up my awareness towards a Bucket List and how important it is to have one.

I’m a big believer in dreams and that anything is possible. I also believe in experiencing everything life has to offer. 2020 has shown me that life is short and everything can be taken away in an instant. I want to look back at my life knowing that I constantly put myself out there, took every opportunity I could and gave it my all.

Having a Bucket List promotes creativity, drive, commitment, direction, purpose, excitement, adventure and so much more. It’s putting it out there for the world to see you’re ready to experience life in whatever way that means to you. Your Bucket List can be whatever YOU want it to be whether it’s focused on travel, career, food or every single one of your goals, it’s all relevant and beneficial.

I feel like we live in a society that is so restricted to the social norm that any dreaming or aspirations more than the ‘standard’ are rarely encouraged. I find this so sad because we’re the creators of our reality and we CAN do anything if we want to. I made a point of putting thing’s on my bucket list that stretched my possibility boundaries because what growth and excitement comes from playing it safe?

Not only is it a great growth tool it’s also a great reminder of what I’ve done and achieved so far in my life. We can get so stuck in our day-to-day that we can forget some of the accomplishments we’ve achieved and don’t give ourselves enough credit on how far we’ve come. Personally, having a bucket list has given me so much fulfillment and direction that I recommend anyone sitting down and creating one. I started with 10 things that I really wanted to do and then it just grew from there and is still growing now. I challenge you to start writing a list and see what happens!
