Change your habits with this cup

In light of yesterday being #MenstrualHygieneDay (28th May), I thought it fitting to talk about a product that has been beneficial to me in several ways.

The menstrual cup/diva cup may be scary in appearance but is in reality easy and efficient to use.

I started using it to reduce the amount of money I spend on sanitary products for my period every single month. The cup in itself is more expensive than a box of tampons but lasts a lifetime (if well kept) and is therefore well worth the money.

As daunting as it sounds you need to find the right way to fold it for your body e.g. the F fold or the C fold. What I particularly love about it, is that it requires very little maintenance; you can change it twice a day and feel completely secure (although this varies from woman to woman).

Not only does it save some money each month, but it is also an amazing way to be more sustainable, as the only waste it comes with is the initial packaging. Think about it, if every woman in the world ditched their tampons and sanitary towels for a menstrual cup, the waste would be near to nothing!

In order to be able to keep this cup until the end of your bloody days, you should put it in boiling water after every use (and before just in case) to get rid of any bacteria and clean it thoroughly. You should also keep it in the container that it comes in to ensure maximum cleanliness.

I strongly believe that women should make a conscious effort to reduce their menstrual waste, (and yes I know, still waiting for it all to be free), but it is one small step towards being more sustainable!

You can get two types of Mooncup from Boots in the UK, Size A and Size B.
