Transform Your Hair Routine With Hair Syrup

Writer’s note: Even though these products were gifted to me, all the thoughts and opinions shared here are completely my own. My reviews are based on my personal experience with the products, aiming to give you an honest and unbiased perspective.

Hair Syrup has emerged as a buzzworthy name in the hair care arena, offering a range of high-performance, pre-wash hair and scalp oils. Developed in the UK, this brand emphasizes nourishment, gloss, and hydration through its thoughtfully crafted products, which address various hair concerns, from dryness to scalp irritation.

With their commitment to clean ingredients and effective formulations, Hair Syrup is redefining hair care routines, ensuring that each wash leaves hair revitalized and gleaming with health.

First Impressions

What I Received

Hair Syrup was kind enough to send me two kits to try, meaning I had a LOT of choices and some hard decisions to make when deciding which to trial for the review.

They sent me:

The kits came in individual boxes, making them ideal to gift. Inside the larger box, the starter kit was loose with some cornstarch dissolvable packing peanuts, which was surprising but not necessarily a bad thing.

The bottles are very cute, each having a fun tagline on the side. For example, Rapunzel says ‘you grow girl’, whereas Watermelon Milk says ‘one in a melon’. I like that the 50ml bottles are small enough to pack in a weekend bag without taking up too much space. However, Hair Syrup does offer 100ml and even 300ml options, which means that if I fall in love, I can grab a large bottle for everyday use.

Instructions for Hair Syrup

  1. Section out dry, unwashed hair using clips.

  1. Brush hair thoroughly & stimulate the scalp using either your hands or a massage tool.

  2. Apply the syrup using your hands or the nozzle, gradually moving down from roots to lengths, to tips.

  3. Massage the syrup into your scalp for a few minutes & then leave to marinate for 1-4 hours.

  4. Wash out thoroughly (always double cleanse with shampoo).

  5. Condition & style as normal.

Review

I have pretty long hair, and over the years, I've put it through a lot of stress and damage. Currently, my hair has bleached ends with a slight tinge of leftover dye from previous colouring attempts. The texture of my hair varies; while it is relatively manageable at the roots, it becomes increasingly unmanageable and difficult to control towards the ends. This mix of textures makes finding the right hair care routine a bit of a challenge, as my hair requires different treatments for the roots and the ends to maintain overall health and appearance.

I usually use products like PK Elasticiser to condition my hair deeply, so I’m very excited to have the opportunity to try something different.

I decided to start with the Original Hair Syrup, as it’s the OG product that marked the beginning of the Hair Syrup journey. This product doesn't claim any specific targeted benefits, making it an ideal baseline for me to assess the overall quality and effectiveness of the brand's formulation. I figured that starting with the Original would provide a solid foundation to understand how well Hair Syrup's basic formula works before exploring their more specialized options. Plus, it allowed me to experience the product that initially captivated so many users and built the brand's reputation.

I used about a third of the small bottle on my hair but probably could have gotten away with slightly less. My hair is very porous so drank it up. This means that in a standard-size bottle of Hair Syrup, I’d get 6 applications - which isn’t bad, in my opinion. Obviously, my hair is very long so most people would get a few more applications per bottle.

One thing to note is the lack of scent in this version. I don’t think it smells of anything in particular, but it does have an ‘oily’ smell that I didn’t overly enjoy.

The packaging says to leave it in for an hour, but the website FAQs mention you can leave it in for up to 4 hours, so I left it in for about 2.5 hours while I worked.

Results

I followed the directions and double-shampooed my hair, as recommended. However, I couldn’t quite remember whether I was supposed to condition it afterwards, so I decided to skip that step. To my surprise, my hair didn’t seem to need any extra conditioning at all - just take a look at the before and after photos!

The results were impressive. My hair felt incredibly soft, and it was noticeably easier to manage compared to how it was before. The transformation was clear; the product delivered exactly what my hair needed without the additional conditioning step, which speaks volumes about its effectiveness. As you can see from the photos, my hair looks smoother, shinier, and much healthier overall.

What Is Hair Syrup?

Hair Syrup has had a meteoric rise to fame on TikTok. Founded by Lucie Macleod during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, she initially made the products for her own hair care needs. Macleod shared her homemade hair oil treatments on TikTok, not anticipating the overwhelming response her videos would receive. Her posts quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and turning Hair Syrup into a cult favorite almost overnight.

TikTok users were captivated by the effects of her products, which promised to boost hair growth, enhance shine, and improve overall hair health. As users shared their positive experiences, the brand's popularity soared.

Final Thoughts

Hair Syrup offers an impressive range of gift sets, which are a fantastic option if you're interested in trying out their pre-wash treatments without making a full commitment right away. These sets provide great value and allow you to explore different formulas at a more accessible price point. While Hair Syrup products aren’t the cheapest on the market, the rave reviews and widespread love for these treatments suggest that they may be worth the investment if they work well for your hair.

One of the standout features of Hair Syrup is its commitment to natural ingredients. Each treatment is 100% natural and free from silicones, alcohol, and parabens, making them a healthier choice for your hair and scalp. However, it’s important to note that all the treatments, except for Scalp Superfoods, contain nut and seed oils, which could be a concern for those with nut allergies.

I’ve only just started using the samples I was sent, and I’m confident they will last me a while. But based on the results I’ve seen, I’m already considering purchasing a full-size product once I run out. Hair Syrup suggests using the treatments a couple of times a week, so I’ll be incorporating them into my regular hair care routine moving forward. The difference they’ve made in the softness, manageability, and overall health of my hair has been truly impressive.
