Pink Shoes and Jilbaab: Not Your Average Guide to The Hijab By Kiran Shah

A self-help guide by Kiran Shah, Pink Shoes and Jilbaab dives into the spiritual and emotional connection and meaning behind wearing the hijab, mixing this lesson with ways to achieve success in other aspects of life. Shah takes experiences from her life to help readers understand the steps needed to prepare to wear the hijab, while giving helpful tips to make the transition a little easier.

Although it is a short book, this works in its favour with short and quick points to help you find what you need. The writing feels blog-like, making everything Shah goes through a lot easier to follow and take in. The humour is terrific, and readers can relate to a lot of pitfalls she writes about, like getting stuck flipping through pictures on Instagram or getting lost on YouTube and Twitter.

This book also covers a variety of topics in relation to self-confidence, particularly when it comes to young girls and women. These topics range from being safe online, how to keep themselves safe within relationships (friendships or otherwise), and how to focus on achieving our goals while focusing on honouring God in our lives.

It's a great book to pick up if you want to learn more about the hijab, the meaning behind it, and the different types there are, especially if you're interested in wearing the hijab in the future or just like learning about different religious customs. Shah does a great job at connecting success and positivity to how to gain the confidence to wear to the hijab as well as the dedication needed to continue to do so, particularly when there is so much negativity within and outside of the Islamic community.

This book is written with Muslim women in mind, but it is also an excellent experience for anyone interested in learning more about Muslim culture, or want to learn more about Islam (especially if you are from a different religious community like I am), or if you're looking for new ways to achieve your goals. It is absolutely worth picking up. It's currently available on Amazon.
